If you are traveling to Italy, staying in the Tuscany region is a must. The region is a great place for a peaceful holiday away from the crowds and the cities. This Chianti Classico wine country is made of small town clusters and expand out to rich farmlands and vineyards. These unique Tuscan villages are plentiful, and many were built during the Middle Ages or the Renaissance over 400-500 years ago.

Find your Agriturismo
Since we came to Florence for wedding celebrations, we had the honor of reserving the entire Agriturismo Fonte de ‘Medici for family and friends. This villa and its vineyards have been owned by the Antinori family, winemakers, for over 600 years. Each stone home is broken into apartments and spread out overlooking the vineyards.
The view from our balcony overlooked the beautiful Chianti countryside, and waking up to a far-off rooster made me feel at peace. The songs of the wild birds almost sounded unreal, as if they were recordings.
Our apartment was decorated in the traditional Tuscan style with sun-washed hues, exposed wooden beams and terracotta flooring. The master had a petite sitting area for your morning espresso where you can open the window and enjoy the view and country air.
Although we did not personally find this establishment, Agriturismo.it is a great source to find your own farmhouse haven.
Chianti Classico wineries
You cannot come to wine country without visiting a winery. We chose to visit Antinori Chianti Classico Winery, an extraordinary architecture masterpiece of its own, where we could taste the wines produced from the vineyard we were staying. After our long travels and very little sleep, it was nice to sit and relax with a light lunch and great wine.
Unfortunately, without reservations, we were not able to sit under the flowing wisteria trellis. Those who are able to plan ahead can experience fine dining, group wine tastings, and cellar tours. Be sure to stop at the wine shop to bring your favorites back to your agriturismo.
We were not able to explore any other wineries due to our commitments to wedding events, but there are endless options for you to choose from. I was very interested in exploring a nearby castle, a farm-to-table restaurant and winery nearby, but we chose to spend one day of rest to enjoy and explore our own villa’s surroundings.
Relax in a local piazza
One of the most memorable moments is when we took a day to relax at our nearest town square, Montefiridolfi. We purchased drinks and snacks from Corti Alviero and enjoyed being immersed into the culture. If this is your second vacation to Italy, I would suggest being in the moment of doing nothing. This was our first visit to Italy and needed to see much, so we only had a couple days of relaxation available.
